My laptop is working on my last nerve!!!

So, a few weeks ago, the laptop randomly shut down in the middle of something. When I started it back up, it said that my user profile was corrupted, so it created me a new one. At first, I was extremely panicked because I thought it wiped my hardrive clean (eeek, nearly 80 gigs of music and videos that weren't backed up at the time). Fortunately, I found all my files and I eventually moved everything back over to the new profile. Problem solved.

Today, I was working on my paper that is due tomorrow, and the computer shuts down in the middle of my activity. I go to start it back up, and now it won't even let me into WIndows. UGH!!!!! It goes directly to a blue screen, saying there's registry file failure and that it is corrupt, absent, or not writeable. Whatever the hell that means! 

So, now I'm chatting with HP on my other laptop and the robot (or if it's a real person I'm talking to, their grammar could use some work) just gave me directions on something to do in Windows, but I can't even log onto safemode and I'm ready to throw the laptop out the window!

I think I may have to make a trip to the Geek Squad ::sob:: The last time I was there, the guy made me cry because he talked to me like I was an idiot and told me I told that I didn't tell him to do something when I told him to do it at least 5 times. I never cry. Ever. And it takes a lot to make me cry. I completely lost it on him. Full-blown meltdown. He looked at me like I was a mental patient and FINALLY did what I asked him to do.

I really don't want to go there if I don't have to.

Now, I have to rewrite my paper that's due tomorrow. 

Blerg!

That really bites. We had to take our computer to the Geek Squad because of viruses and they totally screwed us over. We bought the software the recommended, and then they asked if we wanted them to install it. Jeremy said "sure, go ahead." I looked at the receipt after the sake and they had charged us $20 per software installed which ended up being $40. I told them to refund our money back on that one because I'm capable of installing the software myself. The crazy thing? The software we bought was the software they run to remove viruses, so they installed the stuff to try to fix the computer, and then uninstalled it afterwards since we wouldn't pay for the installation! Also, they asked Jeremy if he wanted them to modify the computer so it would run faster for $80. He said sure. Turns out by "run faster" they meant defrag the computer (again, something I'm capable of doing on my own). The kicker? They couldn't fix the computer to begin with, so they reformatted the whole thing. Which meant there was no need to defrag it since there was nothing on it after the format. When I pointed this out to them they refused to refund me the $80 because they said they still ran the defrag program. Nuts. Completely nuts.

I hope your experience with them is better.

Yeah, it seems like everytime I take my laptop to the Geek Squad, they screw me over in charges. I may not be a computer expert, but I'm not completely inept. I can install things. Ugh.

I'm typing this at the Geek Squad on my phone. He just looked at my computer and he looks very worried. Blerg.

Aw - that completely sucks. I hate computer issues; they tend to make me panic. And here I thought the Geek Squad help people would be just like Chuck...

I have a Mac, and I've been to the Genius bar a few times but they are generally pretty nice. I did spill Molassas on it around Christmastime, and the guys there laughed at me, but 1) come on, it was totally warrented! and 2) they did it fairly nicely.

If only they were all like Chuck. Sigh...

I love the Apple Geniuses. I've been there many a time with iPod issues (not just mine. Since I'm the only person in my family who lives near an Apple Store, the entire family ships their iPods to me and I take them in). Unfortunately, I have a PC. I don't think they would see me unless they were feeling especially nice.

I'm typing this at the Geek Squad righr now on my phone. The geek looks worried. I'm screwed.
